We believe that "sustainability" is a direction to take, not a destination

We at "Colline del Vento", as a winery, implement sensitive winemaking practices for the ecosystem and are careful to ensure "environmental quality"; our projects are oriented towards sustainability. Our role is made effective by the complex of social responsibility actions we implement; the protection of productions in individual territories, the protection of the landscape and traditions, and the production of culture.

Cover cropping has a very positive impact on "biodiversity", both above and below the soil, in particular:

  • Increased plant biodiversity. The presence of diverse herbaceous species creates a more complex ecosystem compared to bare soil.
  • Habitat for beneficial insects. Encourages pollinating insects (bees, bumblebees) and natural predators of pests (such as ladybugs and hoverflies), contributing to biological pest control.
  • Improved soil life. Roots and organic residues feed microorganisms, earthworms, and fungi, increasing biological fertility.
  • Increased wildlife presence. Small vertebrates and insects find shelter, creating a more stable ecological network.

Dryland farming

Not irrigating the vineyard is a precise agronomic choice, very common in quality viticulture and Mediterranean contexts. And it brings important benefits to the vineyard, including:

  • Better grape quality
  • Higher concentration: with less water, the berries are smaller → higher skin-to-pulp ratio → more aromas, color, and tannins
  • Higher sugars and polyphenols: useful for more structured and complex wines
  • Often results in wines that are more "expressive" of the terroir

Deeper root system

The vine is "forced" to seek water deep underground and to develop "more extensive and deeper roots", increasing: long-term drought resistance the ability to absorb minerals from the soil
